Lesson Title: The Henry Vilas Zoo....Geotagged!
Type of Web 2.0 tool: A Photoblog by geotagging
Objectives: Students will learn all about geotagging. They will learn what it is, the process behind it and other reasons to use geotagging. We will discuss other sources of geotagged photos.
Description of Lesson: The students will obtain an ariel photo of the zoo from a source such as TerraServer. Students will then take a trip to the zoo and seperate groups will be assigned their exhibits to photograph. Once these are taken, the next step is to gather latitude/longitude coordinates. This can also be done through the TerraServer site. Students will then learn how to use the free software, gpicsync. "GPicSync automatically inserts location in your photos metadata so they can also be used with any 'geocode aware' application like Picasa/Google Earth, Flickr, loc.alize.us, etc." We will present the photo to the zoo for them to upload onto their website. Once created and uploaded, the students will write a short summary about what they learned and how they went about doing the final project.
